xx 2012-2013 Award Predictions
« Thread started on: Sep 16th, 2012, 8:33pm »

These are my personal award predictions so far this season, feel free to post your own obviously, and I'll be updating mine as the season progresses.

Presidents Trophy: Vancouver Canucks *At this point I have yet to play against the Canucks GM but I mean honestly, just look at his team, it's just plain scary. I'm predicting a 3rd straight Presidents Trophy for them.

Atlantic Division Champ: Pittsburgh Penguins *With two 87 overall goalies, the Pens is set there, and it certainly doesn't hurt to have Malkin and Crosby and Letang on his team.

Southeast Division Champ: Washington Capitals *After acquiring Paul Stastny and Roberto Luongo, the Caps look to be a contender this year and prove Sharks GM wrong about those initial power rankings wink

Northeast Division Champ: Buffalo Sabres *Having Ryan Miller in net, the highest rated goalie in the game, is just too much to overcome consistently in this game, which is why I have Buffalo winning their division.

Central Division Champ: Nashville Predators *It's tough to choose this division, but I have the Preds edging out the Hawks and Wings here. The goaltending of Pekka Rinne puts them over the hump.

Northwest Division Champ: Vancouver Canucks *really don't face much competition within their division in my opinion, plus their team is stacked.

Pacific Division Champ: LA Kings *Jonny Quick is a brick wall in net, and having an abundance of quality top 6 forwards doesn't hurt either.

Art Ross Trophy: Alexander Ovechkin *Ovie is currently on pace for 117 points this season, all of which are goal. However, with Paul Stastny, P.A. Parentau and Mason Raymond coming into town, Ovie will have some solid options to distribute the puck to, which will lead to him racking up some decent assist numbers.

Rocket Richard Trophy: Alexander Ovechkin *Provides most of the Caps' offense right now, which is sure to change once Stastny and Parenteu come into town, but come on, the man is on pace for 117 goals and has scored in 6 of the Caps' first 7 games.

Selke Trophy: Pavel Dastyuk *One of the best, if not the best, defensive forwards in the NHL. Have no real basis for this pick, just spit-balling;

Lady Byng Trophy: James Van Riemsdyk *No real basis for this pick either, basically just chose a random player and I played Toronto and he didn't take any penalties so I just picked a random player from a team that won't take too many penalties lol.

Calder Memorial Trophy: Mathieu Perrault *Not too many rookies playing this year, I'd consider it to be between Perrault and Yakupov, but I'm gonna pick Perrault. He's very speedy and will get ample playing time in Columbus, should be able to out-skate defensemen and put the puck in the net on a few breakaways this year.

Norris Trophy: Mike Green *Green got off to a solid start in Washington this year, only playing on the Caps' 2nd D pairing. Green will most likely be promoted to the 1st D pairing and get top powerplay minutes in Colorado. Behind Duchene, Green could possibly be their top offensive option, I'd look for him to have a huge season.

Vezina Trophy: Pekka Rinne Rinne is one of the game's top rated goalies, and it doesn't hurt that he's 6'6". He's gotten off to a solid start and I'd look for him to keep it up throughout the course of the season.

Hart Trophy: Alexander Ovechkin *More bias on my part probably but he will be the top scorer and the top hitter and will boast a very solid +/- on a team that I predict to finish on top of their division, and will most likely lead the NHL in at least 1 major category.

General Manager of the Year: Edmonton Oilers GM *this guy has set his team up to be a top contender for years 2-5 of this league, no doubt in my mind that right now he deserves this award.

No chance the Canucks capture either the Presidents or the Northwest.

I'm far too awful to get the required wins for such trophies.

I really dont see my self as division champs but thanks for believing. Although we seem like very even division, no one stood out for now and there might be my chance. But i would have to improve my game a bit and Miller also, he really didnt show much in his first 3 games.

My new predictions from the 2nd rotation

Presidents Trophy: Pittsburgh Penguins *They are the only team currently undefeated, and have a scary squad with 3 90+ overall players and a very solid goalie.

Atlantic Division Champ: Pittsburgh Penguins *With two 87 overall goalies, the Pens is set there, and it certainly doesn't hurt to have Malkin and Crosby and Letang on his team.

Southeast Division Champ: Carolina Hurricanes *Hurricanes GM has made a few quite solid deals, and with the addition of Marc Staal to his team, look for added chemistry on the Canes to help them bring in the division championship.

Northeast Division Champ: Montreal Canadiens *The Habs are doing great to start the season. Goalie Carey Price is having a phenomenal start to backstop this team.

Central Division Champ: Nashville Predators *Sticking with Nashville this time because they have continued their strong play this rotation.

Northwest Division Champ: Vancouver Canucks *The new GM that has taken over is a much better player than the last GM to control this team, therefore I think he will manage to get his team back on track.

Pacific Division Champ: LA Kings *Staying with L.A. because they have gotten off to a hot start and feature many top players and, of course, Jonny Quick.

Art Ross Trophy: Sydney Crosby *As much as I hate to say it, I think Crosby will win the art ross because I believe his versatility of being able to both score and pass, will put him over the edge between himself and Ovechkin.

Rocket Richard Trophy: Alexander Ovechkin *He is now on pace for 138 goals this year, and even if (when) he slows down, his current lead is probably enough to keep him afloat the leader board.

Selke Trophy: Jason Pominville *Currently leads the NHL with 24 takeaways (tied with Getzlaf, Duchene, and H. Sedin), Pominville has only 4 giveaways this season so far.

Lady Byng Trophy: Jamie Benn *Has played the 18th most total minutes in the NHL, and still has yet to take a single penalty.

Calder Memorial Trophy: Thomas Hicey *Tied for the most points by a rookie this season, yet has played 3 fewer games than Nail Yakupov.

Norris Trophy: Erik Karlsson *Tied for 5th in the NHL in points, Karlsson is looking like a repeat winner of the Norris this year.

Vezina Trophy: Ilya Bryzgalov *Bryzgalov, in 10 games played, boasts a GAA of under 1.00, making him the front runner at this point in the season.

Hart Trophy: Alexander Ovechkin *Sticking with Ovie because although I think Crosby will put up more points, Pittsburgh has Malkin and Letang and Stuer and Neal all putting up solid numbers, while Washington has only Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom putting up anything impressive.

General Manager of the Year: Edmonton Oilers GM *Still has his team set for the future, and no GM, in my opinion, has made major enough moves to help themselves win this year.
