Capitals are making a strong push to bring in a veteran eastern conference goalie, looks like one of their youngsters is on the way out.

Capitals are still shopping for a top 6 RW, nothing appears close.

Rumor has it, the Caps are actively pursuing Pavel Datsyuk out of Detroit.

It appears a deal is close with the back-to-back Presidents Trophy winners out West.

Rumor has it the Caps have a deal all but approved to bring back one of their former goalies.

The Caps have a few offers to bolster their right side forward depth.

Caps are still looking for a blockbuster trade to bring in another superstar. Apparently all draft picks are available, as are all prospects with the exception of Fillip Forsberg and Tom Wilson

Sources are speculating that former norris trophy candidate Mike Green is being sent to the Western Conference before the start of the season. Green appears to have waived his NTC in order to play in front of a former Vezina candidate.

Reports out of DC are that Mike Ribeiro is feeling home sick. He has gone back to Dallas indefinitely. When asked if Ribeiro will be back in time to start the season, Caps GM responds, "Honestly, I don't know. He may not be back at all."

New Capitals GM Ben Perone has made quite a splash so far this off-season. He has re-vamped the team's image, as the Caps look to revert to their fast paced, high scoring, run'and'gun style offense.

Mike Green has reportedly been shipped to the reigning stanley cup champs out in L.A. - GM Perone had this to say, "As saddening as it may be to part with Mike, who has been a Cap his entire NHL career, we feel this deal was necessary in order for us to better execute our new style of play. We are bringing in a top 6 winger to play alongside recently acquired center Derek Roy. We feel that with our young defensive depth, losing one of them was inevitable if we wanted to bring in another top 6 winger. We wish the best to Mike and his family in Los Angeles."

When asked to clarify about the Capitals acquiring Derek Roy, GM Perone said, "Dallas was having second thoughts about dealing us fan-favorite Mike Ribiero, so we made a deal. That's all we're willing to say at this time."

GM Perone confirmed reports out of Pittsburgh that goalie Tomas Vokoun is being traded back to Washington, stating, "While the details are still being ironed out, it is true that Tomas Vokoun will be coming back to Washington, with up and comer Michal Neuvirth is being sent there in return. While our players may be rivals on the ice, business is business and I will do what is best to help our organization win a Stanley Cup this year."

Perhaps the biggest shock of the night came when GM Perone made this announcement- "After several long, detailed conversations with Alexander Ovechkin, owner Ted Leonsis, new coach Adam Oates, and the rest of our staff here in DC, the Washington Capitals have made the decision to respectfully retract the captaincy of our squad from Mr. Alex Ovechkin. We feel it is in Alex's, and the team's, best interest for now."

When asked who the new captain would be, Perone responded, "That is for us to know, and you to find out. However, I can tell you that Alex will be staying on as an assistant captain, and we do not expect his leadership role to diminish whatsoever. We, as an organization, just feel that there are others who have better exemplified the leadership quality for such an important title."

Ovechkin's response to this- "It was not my idea, but I do not disagree with decision. I think having 'C' on my jersey make me play more for me. I need to play for the Caps, not for Alex Ovechkin. Oates do tell me that I have 'C' back once I earn 'C' back."

Some Caps players and home-town guys were seen working out at Kettler Ice Plex, the Caps' practice arena. Ovechkin, Brooks Laich, and Maryland-native Jeff Halpern were out shooting on Braden Holtby. D-men John Carlson, Karl Alzner, Jeff Schultz, and Fedor Tyutin of the Columbus Blue Jackets were out practicing hip checks and blocking shots. In an interview with Tyutin after their hour long skate, a reporter asked him why he was in DC. Tyutin responded with "I met Karl Alzner earlier this summer at a charity golf tournament. He invited me here to work out with him and Carlson so I said why not. I really like it here though, I think I might just stay a while."

As information leaks out of Toronto about the upcoming season, it appears that the Capitals former trades with Pittsburgh and Dallas are off. When asked about this, Caps GM Ben Perone had this to say, "As training camps have started, we've gotten a better look at the future of our players and other team's players too. This has led us to re-visit numerous previously agreed upon trades. We have contacted those general managers and send our sincerest apologies."
