PICKING UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF

Zbynek Michalek celebrates after scoring the go ahead goal, and his third of the season, in the 1st period of
Phoenix's game against the Calgary Flames on October 18th.

The Phoenix Coyotes' began their season celebrating the first divsional title in franchise
history and the celebrations would continue as they would go on to take their home opener
3-2 in overtime against divisional rivals the Dallas Stars. The Coyotes' would continue to roll
back into Dallas for the second half of the season opening home-and home. Lauri Korpikoski
scored a shorthanded game winner in the second period, Zbynek Michalek added two goals
of his own, and Mike Smith put up 2 shutout periods as the Coyotes would take the game by
a score of 3-1.

The Coyotes would finish the rotation at home first hosting the Calgary Flames. Michalek
scored his team leading 3rd goal of the season early in the first and Mike Smith put on another
near perfect performance, leaving the Flames scoreless until midway through the third, but
Backlund's goal would not be enough for the Flames to come back and the Coyotes went on
to win their third straight game, 3 to 1.

The Coyotes finished their rotation against the Anaheim Ducks in a game where the
Ducks came out swinging. Anaheim scored 3 quick goals in the first 5 minutes as the Coyote's
struggled to find their legs. Phoenix would tie the game up in the third after Steve Sullivan
potted a rebound into a gaping net but the tie was short lived as the Ducks would quickly
restore a two goal lead and go on to win by a score of 5-3, snapping Phoenix's win-streak at
three games.

The Coyotes finish the rotation 3-1-0, 1 point back of the Dallas Stars for the division
lead with two games in hand. Phoenix begins the second rotation on October 25th when they
play host to the high flying Nashville Predators. The Predators also got their season off to a
quick start, winning 4 of their first 5 games and currently sit atop the Western Conference.
