Drew Doughty is a world juniors champion, Olympic champion and Stanley cup champion. There were high hopes for Doughty this season after winning the Stanley cup. However, a very questionable hit from a St.Louis blues player(wish i knew who) has sidelined this young hockey phenom for half the regular season. Four seconds After doughty took a shot from the high slot area he was ran over by a St.Louis blues player and hasn't played a game since.
There was no penalty on the play which was a horrible call by the referees according to the LA Kings GM. In, addition the LA Kings GM had this to say " The league needs to do a better job protecting its star players. The St Louis blues player needs to be fined and suspended. There is no room for dirty hits like that in our league. A player of Doughtys caliber only comes along once in a blue moon. Doughty is only 22 years old and he has the potential to become the best defensemen in the game. For the growth of the league and for the fans sake a player like Doughty needs to be protected from dirty uncalled for hits. Its a joke there was no penalty and no suspension. If the league wont take matters into their own hands, we will."
The league has yet to comment on the statement from the LA kings GM. But, it looks like the league will do nothing and it will be up to the Kings to take matters into their own hands.
